Instagram post 17946748501971729 Paid a visit this morning to a new piece by @mirkoreisser (DAIM). Considered the world's tallest mural — this is so big in so many ways. Back in the mid-late 90s me and the crew used to hunt DAIM pieces down in obscure graffiti zines, trading flix by mail, hunting on foot in Europe etc to catch a glimpse of this ultra fresh 3D style that tweaked, twisted and freaked the funk outta letters. Meanwhile, we painted trains in Calgary frieght yards, one of those yards is just a few blocks from this new piece. Thinking about those years....the world was very different, the internet was barely alive, everything far away in time and space and guys like DAIM were mysterious, anonymous, mystical legends somewhere "out there". At the time I would've never guessed DAIM would get up, like waaay way up, just down the street from where we we're painting trains. Crazy. So for me, this mural represents a full circle situation of many concentric circles & cycles of graffiti and street art. And, more significantly— this piece is exceptionally symbolic of how global and massive graffiti has become — and how interconnected, bridged and fluid time, space, art, and the world has become. Big big huge respect and thanks to DAIM and team for rockin it and @yycbump for making things happen.
